Damp walls result in a number of detrimental effects to internal finishes such as staining and discolouration, peeling paintwork/finishes, blown plaster, salt and oil contamination etc. Being a Damp Specialist Company with some 160 years worth of trading, know-how and experience behind us means that  Newtons have developed damp treatment products that provide total protection to the internal finishes against these wall damp associated problems.

When Newton Damp Proofing  Membranes have been applied they act as impermeable damp proof separation barriers which do not change the status quo of the underlying structure. So if your property is suffering from penetrating or rising damp, our systems are considered to be an effective alternative to most conventional damp proofing methods such as a chemical damp proof course, cementitious and bitumous paint on coatings and external water repellents.

This is because Newton Membranes generally require minimal preparation, are quick to install, and are considered to be most sympathetic to the structure.

They are reversible and can be ventilated, which make them particularly ideal for use on conservation and historic projects as well as for refurbishment, renovation and new-build. For example installing a chemical damp course is a very exact science in that the holes have to be drilled to the right diameter, at the right spacing and to the correct depth if the installation it to be effective. With Newton Membranes no guess work is required and the membranes are offered up to the walls, drilled and fixed quickly and cleanly the same way to almost any substrate.

Attempts to combat penetrating damp with cementitious or bitumous products often fail due to a lack of effective preparation work. These products  are only as good as the surface to which they are applied and therefore exhaustive and very thorough preparation of the surface is required prior to their application . This can be disruptive, time consuming and expensive. They need to be applied 100% defect free to be effective and often defects can not be seen due to the nature of how the products have to be mixed and applied.

We at John Newton & Company are of the firm opinion that only a waterproof membrane placed between the new surface and the old contaminated surface will result in a permanent solution for damp problems

Although we feel that our Damp Proofing Products can be installed by competent DIY homeowners and builders we also realise that on occasions there will be a requirement for an installation guarantee from a damp specialist  contractor. Newton Registered damp proofing installers are trained and monitored by John Newton so that we have not just the best  systems for damp proofing walls but the best contractors to diagnose your problem, design your system and then install Newton membranes to the very highest standards to prevent further dampness.
